Urla Bağ Yolu was included in the "Green Destinations 2024 Top 100 Stories" list.
With the application made by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in cooperation with Urla Municipality and Urla Bağ Yolu (Urla Vineyard Road) Association, Urla Bağ Yolu was included in the Green Destinations Top 100 Good Practice (Top 100 Sustainable Destination Stories) list.
The individuals and institutions that received awards at the event held at Urla Old Tamirhane Building last night received their certificates from Green Destinations Southern Europe, Middle East and North Africa Representative Iyad Kayali. The companies, whose number has reached 10 today and have been united under the roof of the Association since 2013, aim to revive Urla's historical wine culture, increase cooperation among wine producers and encourage sustainable local development.
Viticulture, wine production and presentation are multi-layered and complex agricultural tourism activities. With the slogan “There is history in every step”, producers who set out from the winemaking heritage of their region, were deemed worthy of this award due to their environmentally friendly agricultural activities and their contributions to the social and economic life of Urla, being a leading sector.
The association member businesses carry out the vast majority of their agricultural production in Urla. The wine production facilities are located in the vineyards where the raw material is produced. The natural beauty of the vineyards makes this agricultural activity and the presentation of the wine produced attractive from a touristic perspective.
Production from grapes grown in the same vineyard naturally reduces the carbon footprint of the final product wine to zero. When the producer's ecological meticulousness in the soil processing process and their avoidance of pesticides and herbicides are added to this, water resources are not polluted, the biological vitality of the soil and the thousands of animal species hosted by the vineyards can survive.
Urla Vineyard Road producers have created a suitable habitat for young and talented chefs with their products that are indispensable accompaniments to modern gastronomy. Urla is currently the town with the most gastronomic awards in Turkey. The fact that at least three of these awards are Green Michelin indicates the solidity of the sustainable tourism foundations in the region.
Urla, which preserves its natural beauty, unique social structure and local businesses, highlights cooperation and sustainability between municipalities and businesses, and the Urla Vineyard Road gives hope to leave a livable world for future generations with its story.
